Lowcountry Forever: AHA Heart Walk & Sweetgrass Half Marathon – Jan. 25, 2026

Each February, the American Heart Association hosts the Lowcountry Heart Walk, an event to raise money, and raise awareness for the organization. This year’s walk takes place on Saturday, Feb. 28 and Michael Scarafile from Carolina One Real Estate is the chairperson for the 2026 event.  Scarafile provided information on the 3 miles walk, taking place at Joe Riley Ball Park in Charleston, along with how individuals can join the walk either by themselves or as a part of a team. One of the goals of the event this year is to raise awareness of both the importance of knowing CPR and how easy it is to learn. Scarafile shared statistics on the difference CPR can make and suggestions on how individuals can learn as part of the walk, and through the American Heart Association.

SEGMENT #2: Town of Mount Pleasant
GUEST: Tracy Richter, Events Coordinator

One of the Lowcountry’s first big running events of 2026 is the annual Sweetgrass Half Marathon, put on by the Town of Mount Pleasant Recreation Department. The Town’s Events Coordinator Tracy Richter provided all the details on this year’s 13.1 mile run that will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28. This year’s event will also include a 10K run and Richter explained the reasoning behind adding a second run to the event. Richter shared the elements that will take place that morning, how individuals can register, the ways local businesses can get involved and why the Town’s Recreation Department hosts this run. Additionally, she discussed some of the Town’s other spring events for residents including the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market and upcoming Blessing of the Fleet event.
