When people think of dermatology, their first thought many times is teenage acne. Dermatology is important to children of all ages. Dr. Daniel Grove, MD, FAAD is a double board-certified dermatologist and pediatric dermatologist who shared insight on the importance of dermatology for children. For example, birthmarks are elements parents may need to watch and alert their pediatrician if they believe they see an issue. Here in the Lowcountry, sun exposure is an issue for children of all ages and Dr. Grove provided some guidance for parents for their sons and daughters. Plus, Dr. Grove was also able to address the mental and emotional effects that are associated with acne/skin care and how parents should approach these areas with their children.

ISSUE: Veterans/Homelessness
It’s a sad but highly reported issue, homelessness among our nation’s veterans. Saturday, March 28th is the Inaugural Housing Heroes Festival at the Sons of the American Legion Post 166 in Goose Creek. The event is being put on by Altruistic Events, Inc. as a family-friendly community fundraiser supporting veteran housing and stability programs through Lowcountry Veterans Home. Jessica Greibesland, the Altruistic Events President share why the organization put together the event and provide details on some of the festival activities including raffles, a Kids Zone with activities and local vendors & community partners onsite. Steve Lowe from the organization joined to talk about the American Legion’s role in this event, and other ways they are reaching out to help Veterans in need.
