Since the 1980s, the town of St. George has been the largest consumer of grits on the entire planet; and to celebrate that achievement the World Grits Festival was born. The second weekend in April, the World Grits Festival takes place with 3 days set aside to celebrate grits. Ned Berry is a member of the World Grits Festival and in addition to sharing the history behind the event, he also shared the highlights of the upcoming 2026 festival. New elements this year include live music on both Friday and Saturday nights to go along with the traditional features such as the parade Saturday morning and the “Rolling in the Grits” contest that is always a huge highlight. In addition, Berry discussed the economic impact of this event on the town of St. George, and how it also raises the town’s profile.

More than 110,000 people in South Carolina are dealing with Alzheimer’s. To raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and to generate funds for reach, Chelsea Rosenthal organized “Rides for Memories,” a motorcycle poker run on Saturday, April 4th to benefit the Charleston Alzheimer’s Association. Rosenthal talked about her motivation for organizing the event and provided specifics on the Poker Run, including how individuals could become involved. Briana Baynard from the Charleston Alzheimer’s Association discussed the challenges of Alzheimer’s, specifically for caregivers and family members who are dealing with the disease. Baynard also provided information on how this money would assist their mission, and details on other Alzheimer’s Association events.
