SEGMENT #1:
GUEST: Justin Ramel, Marketing Director
ISSUE: Community Service
For 50 years, the Summerville YMCA has been serving the Summerville area, and the Lowcountry. But today’s YMCA is different from 50 years ago. Justin Ramel, the Summerville YMCA Marketing Director, addressed some of the changes. Most people see the YMCA as a building with a basketball court and a pool, and while the Summerville Y has both, the non-profit is more than just a work-out facility. Ramel discussed the many programs the YMCA offers that go beyond fitness for both youth and seniors. He shared information about membership and how there are actually3 different YMCA facilities in Summerville. Ramel also provided information about two major events, the Shamrock Shuffle and the Y’s biggest fundraiser, the Flowertown Festival and where the funds those events raise are used.
